High school scoreboard: North Hall wins on senior night

The North Hall High boys golf team recognized its seniors by playing all of them in a 156-167 win against West Hall on Tuesday at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Derek Watson led North Hall with a 35. Roger Nash shot a 37, Kris Van Meter carded a 41 and Jesse Tipton added a 43 for the Trojans. Sam Weaver and Patrick Kelly, North Hall’s other two seniors, also played.

Will England led West Hall with a 38.

North Hall participates in a 20-team field at the Demon Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday at International City Golf Course in Warner Robins. West Hall visits Habersham Central at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Clarkesville.

West Hall girls 101, North Hall 111

Caitlin Vandenhandel shot a personal-best 46 to lead the Lady Spartans on Tuesday at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Megan Carr led North Hall with a 54.

West Hall visits Habersham Central at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Clarkesville.

Lumpkin County 156, Johnson 159

Led by a pair of 38s from Aaron George and Everett Huntsinger, the Indians edged Hall County champion Johnson on Tuesday at Royal Lakes Golf Course.

Austin Booker carded a 39 and Cody Fleming added a 41 for Lumpkin County.

Grant Cagle was the low medalist of the day, shooting a 37 for Johnson. Ben Brisbos carded a 40 and Clint Reeves and Josh Foster each had a 41 for the Knights.

Lumpkin County plays host to Union County at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Gainesville girls 96, White County 100, Habersham Central 114

Camryn Cole was the low medalist of the day with a 41 while Susan Frobos added a 55 for the Lady Red Elephants on Tuesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Candace Cochran shot a 47 and Chelsea Ash carded a 53 for White County. Hannah Whitlock led Habersham Central with a 53.

Gainesville (7-2) plays in the St. Pius Par 3 Tournament on Monday at the Peachtree Golf Center in Duluth. White County faces Lumpkin County and Union County at 4 p.m. Thursday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega. Habersham Central plays host to West Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Clarkesville.

Gainesville girls 3, East Hall 0


Raquel Castillo led the Lady Red Elephants with a goal and an assist in an area win Tuesday at City Park.
Briseida Barillas and Maggie Norton also scored for Gainesville (7-3, 3-2 Area 7-AAA). Lauren Joiner added an assist for the Lady Red Elephants.
Hong Tran recorded the shutout in goal for Gainesville.
Gainesville plays host to West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Friday. East Hall (0-8, 0-8) visits Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

BASEBALL

Banks County 9, Jackson County 3


The Leopards scored six runs in the last two innings to win their third straight on Tuesday in Homer.

Zach Dale was 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs for Banks County (8-3, 2-2 Region 8B-AA). Chris Porter was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and four RBIs for the Leopards.

Kasey Hudgins pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts for Banks County.

Banks County plays host to Oglethorpe County at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

North Oconee 3, Jefferson 1

A two-run sixth inning for North Oconee snapped the Dragons’ six-game winning streak Tuesday in Bogart.

Chris Beck struck out 11 hitters in six innings for Jefferson (7-2, 2-1 Region 8B-AA). Jake Field doubled and had an RBI for the Dragons.

Jefferson visits East Jackson at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

TENNIS

Flowery Branch girls 5, Gainesville 0


Jennica Ramey, Morgan Ruiz and Lindsey Shaw each won singles in a subregion win for the Lady Falcons on Tuesday at Longwood Park.

The team of Nicki Price and Morgan Reed and the team of Elizabeth Mallory and Bekki Benton completed the sweep for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch plays host to West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Thursday. Gainesville visits West Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Gainesville boys 4, Flowery Branch 1

Ryan Joiner and Doug McDuff each won in singles in straight sets for Class AAA’s seventh-ranked Gainesville on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

The team of Louis Hokayem and Corey McDonald and the team of Robbie Billbrough and Drew Denning kept Gainesville (7-0) unbeaten this season with wins in doubles.

Destin Tipton won in singles for Flowery Branch.

Gainesville visits West Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday. Flowery Branch plays host to West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Thursday.

North Hall boys 3, Johnson 2

The Trojans won with a sweep in doubles by the team of Michael Franze and Charlie Hortenstine and the team of Scott Swanson and Will Bennett on Tuesday.

Mitch McCray won in singles for North Hall. William Anthony and Scott Allan won in singles for Johnson.

North Hall (7-6, 6-2 Region 7A-AAA) visits Pickens at 4 p.m. today.

Chestatee boys 4, White County 1

The War Eagles swept doubles in straight sets, with wins from the team of Scott McConnell and Justin Byers and the team of Graham Kosiba and Matt Olson on Tuesday in Cleveland.

Max Gingles and Abraham Montoya won in singles for Chestatee (8-8, 5-4 Region 7A-AAA). Thomas Flowers won in singles for White County.

Chestatee visits Pickens at 4 p.m. Thursday. White County plays host to Gilmer at 4 p.m. today.

West Hall girls 5, East Hall 0

Kacie Smith, Kaylin Walters and Samantha Lingle won in straight sets for the Lady Spartans on Tuesday at East Hall Park.

West Hall (9-4) completed the sweep in doubles with wins from the team Chelsea Britt and Alex Wright and the team of Kelly Lingle and Kayla Cansler.

West Hall visits Gainesville at 4 p.m. Thursday. East Hall visits Johnson at 4 p.m. Thursday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Gainesville boys 68, Clarke Central 51, Buford 24


Paul Malquist set a new Red Elephants record with 15 feet in the pole vault in a home meet Tuesday in Gainesville.

Other first place finishers for Gainesville were Blake Sims in the long jump (21-feet, 5-inches), Chris West in the high jump (6-0), Tai-ler Jones in the 200 (21.92 seconds) and Aurelio Montano in the two-mile (10:56) and one-mile (5:07).

Sims and Jones were also part of the first-place 4x100 team, along with Xavier Ervin and Teryan Rucker (42.53).

Gainesville participates in the Gladiator Invitational on Saturday at Clarke Central High in Athens.

Gainesville 62, Clarke Central 57, Buford 11

Tasha Turner led the Lady Red Elephants with first-place finishes in the 200-meter (27.5 seconds), 400 (61.2) and as part of the 4x100 team (50.97) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Shelbee Carter finished first in the long jump (16-6) and the triple jump (34-2) and Jasmine Jones won the high jump with a height 4-10 for Gainesville.

Gainesville participates in the Gladiator Invitational on Saturday at Clarke Central High in Athens.
