The Jefferson baseball team split a doubleheader with Wesleyan in the second round of the Class AA state tournament on Wednesday in Jefferson.
The Dragons (26-3) won the first game 8-3, with Micah Carpenter striking out six from the mound.
Trent Sorrells led the Jefferson offense in Game 1 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored on a single and a home run in a 2-for-3 performance. Jake Franklin went 2 for 4 with a double, a single, an RBI and a run scored for the Dragons.
Jefferson fell 7-6 in Game 2, and Franklin and Sorrells split time on the mound with Sorrells taking the loss in 3 2/3 innings. Sorrells hit a two-run single in the third inning, and Max Ford and Alex Gaba each went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Jefferson plays host to Wesleyan in a decisive Game 3 at 5 p.m. today in Jefferson.
