With the score tied 1-1 in the eighth inning, Gainesville’s Will Maddox hit a two-out triple to score Skyler Weber and Stephen Mason and give his team a 3-1 win over Habersham Central at Ivey-Watson Field.

David Gonzalez had 12 strikeouts in seven innings, giving up two hits and no earned runs for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville (3-1) plays host to Central Gwinnett at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

Habersham Central plays host to Winder at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

JACKSON COUNTY 14, JOHNSON 5: Sophomore Tre Sorrells had a home run and three RBIs Thursday night at Johnson to lead the Panthers to a 4-0 season start.

Austin Robinson, Quinn Grogan and Kelly Moates each had extra-base hits for Jackson, which will play a doubleheader tomorrow against Osborne at noon and East Jackson at 5 p.m.

NORTH FORSYTH 11, NORTH HALL 1, 6 inn.: “We took it on the chin,” said North Hall coach Trent Mongero of his team’s six-inning loss Thursday at Piedmont College.

Jacob Booster, Ryan Pitts and Eli Gilmer each had a hit for North Hall, which visits Lakeview Academy at 1 p.m. Saturday.

WHITE COUNTY 15, HART COUNTY 4, 6 inn.: David Sosebee had 13 strikeouts while giving up five hits to earn the win in a shortened game Thursday at Hart County.

The Warrior offense was led by Montana Saine, who went 3-4 and scored three runs.

White County (3-0) scored ten runs in the fifth inning en route to the win.

White County plays host to Hart County at 5:30 today.

UNION COUNTY 7, FLOWERY BRANCH 1: Union County senior Brady McCarter pitched five innings, giving up one run while striking out 11 to earn the win Thursday at Flowery Branch.

McCarter also had the only extra-base hit (double) for Union County (3-1).

The Panthers travel to Hayesville (N.C.) at 4:30 p.m. today.

Flowery Branch (0-4) travels to Lakeview Academy at 4:30 p.m. today.

BUFORD 11, EAST HALL 0, 5 inn.: Eric Eck pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Wolves to a win at East Hall on Thursday.

Eck gave up only one hit and struck out 12 in the makeup for last Tuesday’s game, which was postponed due to weather.

Buford (2-1) plays host to East Hall at 5:30 p.m. today.

Golf

WEST HALL 79, NORTH HALL 91, JOHNSON 92: Mallorie Smith led West Hall with a seven-hole round of 36 and Natalie Mathias shot a 43 for the Lady Spartans in their victory Thursday at Royal Lakes.

Jessie Edge (45) and Ansley Chester (46) were the low scorers for North Hall.

Johnson was led by Carlie Doster with a 45 and Carly Robertson with a 47.

All three teams will meet again starting at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Hall County Tournament at Royal Lakes.

NORTH HALL BOYS 161, WEST HALL 185: Jackson Berry and Ryan Matthews each shot a round of 39 with Ross Ward (41) and Charlie Matthews (42) to lead the Trojans on Thursday at Royal Lakes.

Justin Harkleroad lead West Hall with a round of 44.

North Hall and West Hall next meet in the Hall County Tournament, which begins at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Royal Lakes.

NORTH FORSYTH GIRLS 90, LUMPKIN COUNTY 113: Morgan Wood shot a 52 and Taylor Gooch shot a 61 for the Lady Indians on Thursday at Countryland Golf Course.

Lumpkin County next takes on West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Thursday at Achasta.

WEST FORSYTH GIRLS 83, GAINESVILLE 94: Behind an 8-hole score of +6 from Margaret Yeh and a +13 from Emily Allison the Lady Wolverines won Thursday.

Lila Cooley had a +13 for Gainesville and LeeAnn Noble shot +17.

Gainesville will join multiple Hall County teams in the Hall County Tournament at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Royal Lakes.

NORTH HALL BOYS 4, CHESTATEE 1: No. 3 singles player Jeremiah Reed had the lone victory for the War Eagles on Thursday at Chestatee.

North Hall (4-2, 3-0 Region 7A-AAA) plays host to Pickens County at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Chestatee plays host to Johnson at 4 p.m. Monday.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 3, CHESTATEE 2: Behind three strong singles performances from Cara Reece, Gay Anne Agnew and Catherine Im, the Lady Trojans won a close match on the road Thursday.

The Chestatee doubles teams of Emily Elder/Tiffani Poole and Sarah Beth Tankersley/Carly Dale earned victories in the team’s losing effort.

Chestatee travels Johnson at 4 p.m. Monday.

North Hall plays host to Pickens County at 4 p.m. Thursday.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 5, WEST HALL 0: The Lady Falcons swept West Hall on Thursday at Alberta Banks Park.

Flowery Branch travels to Johnson at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

West Hall visits West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Monday.

WEST HALL BOYS 5, FLOWERY BRANCH 0: The Spartans only lost one set at Flowery Branch on Thursday.

Singles players Brenden Worth, Connor McFall and Max Wilson and the doubles teams of Johnson/Backus and Jacobs/Smith all recorded victories.

West Hall (6-2, 4-1 Region 7B-AAA) travels to West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Monday.

Flowery Branch plays host to Johnson at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON BOYS 4, EAST HALL 1: Singles players Scott Allan and Casey Tannner and the doubles teams of Aaron Cumbley/William Anthony and Oscar Rivera/Kirby Craft each recorded straight-set victories Thursday for Johnson at home.

Drew Jones had the lone win for West Hall, 6-1, 6-2.

Johnson (2-4, 1-2 Region 7B-AAA) travels to Chestatee at 4 p.m. Monday

East Hall doesn’t play again until 4 p.m. March 16 at West Hall.

JOHNSON GIRLS 5, EAST HALL 0: The Lady Knights won in straight sets Thursday at East Hall.

Singles players Cady Nix, Kamy Field and Harlee Robson and the doubles teams of Crain/Turner and Houston/Ivey earned victories.

Johnson plays host Chestatee at 4 p.m. Monday.

East Hall plays host to Lambert 4 p.m. Tuesday.

LAMBERT BOYS 5, GAINESVILLE 0: The Red Elephants failed to win a set Thursday in the sweep at Lambert.
