The North Hall baseball team took out defending Class AA state champs Buford 6-4 on Saturday in Gainesville.

Trojans starter Avery Smith pitched five innings to earn the win, Colton Duttweiler pitched two innings of no-hit ball for the save and Preston Graham drove in a pair of runs and finished 2 for 3 at the plate.

The Trojans jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in both of the first two innings. Andrew Smith, Jesse Strickland and Zack Mize all scored twice for North Hall.

North Hall (2-3) hosts Habersham Central at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

CHESTATEE 3, WEST HALL 2 (Friday): The War Eagles broke a tie with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat West Hall on Friday in Gainesville.

Tanner Gable earned the win on the mound for Chestatee, pitching a complete game with eight strikeouts while allowing just three hits.

Dillon Brewster finished 2 for 4 and drove in a pair of runs for the War Eagles, and Justin Spears crossed the plate in the seventh for the game-winning run.

Cameron Johnson led West Hall with a hit, a run and a stolen base, and Chase Jarrard was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Spartans.

Chestatee hosts East Hall at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

Golf

GAINESVILLE GIRLS FINISH 3RD: The host Gainesville girls golf team finished third with a score of 170 at the second annual Chattahoochee Invitational on Saturday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.

Meg Callahan led the Lady Red Elephants with a score of 84 and Morgan Reece finished with an 86.

Milton (150) won the event and Mill Creek edged Gainesville by two strokes on a day that the players and coaches honored breast cancer survivors.
