High school scoreboard: Johnson edges Creekview in tournament play

The Johnson High boys basketball team earned its ticket to the Region 7-AAA tournament quarterfinals with an 80-74 win against Creekview on Tuesday at Lumpkin County High.

Down by five at the end of the first quarter, the Knights (13-11) stormed back in the second, outscoring the Grizzlies 20-8 and owning a lead at halftime, which they would hold the rest of the game.

Devaris Finch led Johnson with 25 points. Matt Hollis scored 13 points and Grant Cagle added 12 points.

Creekview was led by Hart Ahumada's 25 points and Austin Younker's 15.

Johnson visits Gainesville the tournament quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Creekview's season is complete.

Flowery Branch boys 50, White County 30

The Falcons outscored White County 35-16 in second and third quarter play to secure its Region 7-AAA tournament opener Tuesday at Lumpkin County High.

Phillips Chau led Flowery Branch (14-11) with 14 points. Brian Whelchel scored 11 points and Kyle Smith added 10 points. Ashely Lowery scored 16 points for White County. Flowery Branch faces Lumpkin County in the tournament quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Thursday at Gainesville High.

Riverside Military 75, Oglethorpe County 48

The Eagles had a 27-point lead at hafltime and held off Oglethorpe County the rest of the game to advance in the Region 8-AA tournament Tuesday at North Oconee.

Dylen Setzekorn led Riverside (12-6) with 20 points. Brandon McKinney scored 19 points, Steven Frady added 12 points and Richard Tribble had 10. Riverside faces the winner of Wednesday's Rabun County and East Jackson game at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Rabun County High.

Buford girls 57, Cross Keys 12

The Lady Wolves opened the game with a 15-0 first quarter lead and never looked back, crusing to a Region 6-AA tournament win Tuesday at Greater Atlanta Christian.

Michelle Godwin led 13 different Buford scorers with 14 points. No Cross Keys player scored more than four points.

Buford faces Lovett in the second round of the region tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday at GAC.

Chestatee girls 5, Monroe Area 0


Five different players scored for the Lady War Eagles in their second straight win Tuesday at Chestatee High.

Morgan Dooley and Megan Fligg each had a goal and assist for Chestatee (2-0). Kelsey Neukum, Daniela Sotelo and Rachel Wright also scored for the Lady War Eagles.

Chestatee visits North Oconee at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Riverside Military 4, Fannin County 2

Daniel Vergara, Adam Stokes, Jae Kim and Mark Shurett each scored in the Eagles region debut Tuesday in Blue Ridge.

Riverside (3-0, 1-0 Region 15-A/AA) visits Gainesville at 7 p.m. Friday.

East Hall boys 8, White County 0

The Vikings opened their regular season with a dominant win Tuesday at East Hall High. East Hall plays host to West Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday. White County (1-1, 0-1) visits Dawson County at 7;30 p.m. Friday.

White County girls 3, East Hall 2

Down by a goal at halftime, the Lady Warriors rallied in the second half to win its first region game Tuesday at East Hall High.

Kaitlyn Hooper scored twice for White County (2-0, 1-0 Region 7-AAA). Brie Ballinger assisted on both goals. Anna Herdliska also scored for the Lady Warriors. White County visits Dawson County at 7:30 p.m. Friday. East Hall (0-1, 0-1) plays host to West Hall at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

West Hall boys 7, Stephens County 0

Rudy Vazquez scored twice as the Spartans continued their explosive start to the season on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Chris Lewis, Elvin Mendieta, Juan Arbelaez, Gerson Mejia and Matt Lewis also scored for West Hall (3-0), which has outscored its opponents 19-1 through three games. West Hall visits East Hall at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

West Hall girls 4, Stephens County 1

Brittany Farmer and Jessica Jaimes each scored twice for the unbeaten Lady Spartans on Tuesday in Oakwood. West Hall (3-0) visits East Hall at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Norcross girls 2, North Hall 1

Norcross' Jami Lupuloff scored her second goal of the game in the closing minutes to edge the Lady Trojans in the Brookwood High Challenge on Tuesday in Snellville. 

Tess Patten scored the lone goal for North Hall (1-1). Allie Wright was credited with the assist. North Hall plays host to North Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

TENNIS

North Hall boys 3, Chestatee 2


The Trojans' doubles teams of Eli LoCicero and Charlie Hortenstine and Scot Swanson and Michael Franze each won to earn a late win for North Hall (1-1, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA) on Tuesday at North Hall High.

Mitch McCray won a singles match for the Trojans. Adam Yates and Abraham Montoya were singles winners for Chestatee.

North Hall plays host to Buford at 4 p.m. Friday. Chestatee visits Gilmer at 4 p.m. Thursday.

North Hall girls 5, Chestatee 0

Cara Reece, Katherine Wessely and Jessica Butts each won singles matches in straight sets in the Lady Trojans' sweep of Chestatee on Tuesday at North Hall High.

The doubles teams of Rachel Langman and Gay Anne Agnew and Becca Wren and Anna Eades completed the shutout for North Hall (2-0, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA). North Hall plays host to Buford at 4 p.m. Friday.

Dacula boys 3, West Hall 2

The doubles teams of Tyler Burgamy and Connor McCall and Nathan Turner and Steven Backus each won doubles matches in straight sets for the Spartans on Tuesday in Oakwood.

West Hall plays host to North Forsyth on Thursday.

Dacula girls 3, West Hall 2

Kaylin Walters and Chelsea Britt each won singles matches for the Lady Spartans on Tuesday in Oakwood.

The doubles team of Kayla Cansler and Ellie Smith pushed their match to a third set, but were unable to edge Dacula for the win.

West Hall plays host to North Forsyth at 4 p.m. Thursday.
