The Gainesville boys basketball team jumped out to a 20-8 lead after the first quarter Friday night against Oconee County and cruised to the 74-64 win in Gainesville.
A.J. Johnson scored 18 points to lead the Red Elephants (9-4, 1-1 Region 8B-AAA), who won despite being outscored in the second and fourth quarters.
Quan Holcomb scored 15 points and Deshaun Watson added 12 for Gainesville, which saw nine different players score. Gainesville hosts Walnut Grove at 7:30 tonight.
GAINESVILLE GIRLS 36, OCONEE COUNTY 33: Trailing 19-18 at halftime, the Red Elephants limited Oconee County to 14 total second-half points to grab the close win Friday in Gainesville.
Rebecca Webster scored 21 points to lead Gainesville (7-7, 3-0 Region 8B-AAA).
Kate Callahan scored seven points and had a team-high nine rebounds for the Lady Red Elephants, who host subregion foe No. 3 Walnut Grove (13-0, 1-0) at 6 tonight.
