Edwards leads Vikings past Dawson County

Brian Edwards scored a career-high 19 points for the East Hall boys in a 70-53 win against Dawson County on Wednesday in Dawsonville.

Kymon Woods added 14 points for the Vikings (11-4, 3-0 Region 8A-AA) and Joshua Hampton chipped in 11 points.
Leading 31-27 at halftime, the Vikings outscored Dawson County 23-5 in the third quarter.

“We had a great third quarter,” East Hall coach Joe Dix said. “It’s always tough to win on the road, so we’ll take it.”

Tyler Dominy scored a game-high 23 points for the Tigers and Jacob Evans added 15.

East Hall visits Rabun County, while Dawson County hosts Union County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

EAST HALL GIRLS 49, DAWSON COUNTY 45: Carly Gilreath and Allie Costley each scored 11 points for the Lady Tigers (8-7, 0-3 Region 8A-AA) on Wednesday in Dawsonville. Dawson County hosts Union County at 7 p.m. Friday.

UNION COUNTY BOYS 58, BANKS COUNTY 34: Seth Merritt scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds, both team-highs, for Class AA’s eighth-ranked Panthers on Tuesday in Homer.

Trey Thomas added 10 points and six rebounds for Union County (13-0, 1-0 8A-AA), which led by at least 18 points for the entire second half. Skylar Smith scored seven points, pulled down six rebounds and had five blocks for the Panthers.

UNION COUNTY GIRLS 52, BANKS COUNTY 37: Angie Hughes scored 12 points, with 11 rebounds and two blocks for the Lady Panthers.

Becka Merritt scored 12 points with six rebounds and Tori Dyer had 10 rebounds to go along with five points and three steals for Union County (7-6, 1-0 8A-AA), which began the game on a 9-1 run and never trailed.

Union County visits Dawson County at 7 p.m. Friday in Dawsonville.

Wrestling
NORTH HALL WINS TRI-MATCH (TUESDAY): The Trojans defeated George Walton Academy, 48-26, and Towns County, 45-28, on Tuesday in Hiawasse.

Cody Wilsdon, Shane Doster and Tyler Kratzer each had two wins by pin for North Hall, while Lee Sisson, Cam Howell, Matt Joy and Clay Williamson each had two wins, with one coming by way of pin.

A.J. Berry added one win by pin and Taylor Marett added one win for the Trojans, who host Dawson County at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

DAWSON COUNTY 42, BUFORD 33 (TUESDAY): Anthony Underwood (103 pounds), Andrew Lovingood (140), Charlie Short (145) and Larry Adams (152) each won by for the Tigers in Buford.

James Evans (112 pounds) and David Wood (135) added wins by decision for Dawson County, which visits North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

For Buford, Brent Floyd (125 pounds), Tucker Steinlage (171), Dima Aluero (189), (215), Michael Sweatt (215) and Brandon Brinson (285) earned wins by pin, while Dylan Dailey (130) added a win by decision. Buford begins participation in the North Metro Tournament at Brookwood at 5 p.m. Friday.
