Rushton leads Lady Trojans to win over Franklin County

Mary Kate Rushton fell just short of a triple double, scoring 27 points with 11 rebounds and nine steals, as the North Hall girls basketball team defeated Franklin County 66-53 on Tuesday in Gainesville.

McKenna Rushton and Jordan Nix each added 10 points for the Lady Trojans (7-8, 2-1 Region 8A-AAA), who trailed 18-15 at the end of the first quarter and went into halftime tied at 20-all. North Hall outscored Franklin County 16-6 in the third quarter on their way to closing out the win.

The Lady Trojans visit Stephens County at 6 p.m. Friday in Toccoa.

EAST HALL BOYS 87, FANNIN COUNTY 37: Joshua Hampton scored 15 points and Brian Edwards added 14 as the Vikings rolled Tuesday in Gainesville.

All 13 players scored for East Hall (10-4, 2-0 Region 8A-AA), including Daniel McCreavy with 11 points, Kymon Woods with 10 and Hayden Chapman with 10.

East Hall, which led 29-11 at the end of the first half, visits Dawson County at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Dawsonville.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 45, LUMPKIN COUNTY 23: Peyton Robertson scored 13 points, while pulling down five rebounds and blocking five shots on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Chestatee (15-2, 3-0 Region 8A-AAA) outscored Lumpkin County 17-8 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

The Lady War Eagles will host White County at 7 p.m. Friday.

DAWSON COUNTY BOYS 55: JACKSON COUNTY 52: Jacob Evans scored 22 points and Stephen Johnson added 11 as the Tigers withstood a 25-point fourth quarter by the Panthers to earn the win Tuesday in Dawsonville.

Tyler Dominy scored 10 points for Dawson County (11-3), which hosts East Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Jackson County was led by 21 points from Jarvis Shaw and 14 points from Colin Zimmer. The Panthers visit North Oconee at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Bogart.

JOHNSON BOYS 83, LANIER 65: Matt Hollis scored 31 points as the Knights cruised to the win Tuesday in Oakwood.
Ty Odem had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds for Johnson (9-7, 1-3 Region 8B-AAA).

Jalen Bowens added 16 points for the Knights, who led 48-37 at halftime.

Johnson visits Oconee County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

JOHNSON GIRLS 56, LANIER 29: Caitlin Sloan scored 15 points and Ryleigh Shannon added eight assists in the win Tuesday in Oakwood.

The Lady Knights (9-7, 3-1 Region 8B-AAA) led by only five points at halftime, but outscored Lanier 17-5 in the third to take command of the game at 40-23 going into the final period.

Johnson visits Oconee County at 7 p.m. Friday in Watkinsville.

BUFORD BOYS 66, AVONDALE 35: T.J. Shipes scored 19 points, and Jack Burnette and Zach Lynn each added 10 in the win Tuesday in Buford.

Twelve players scored in the game for Buford (9-5, 4-2 Region 6A-AA), which visits Westminster at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Atlanta.

BUFORD GIRLS 77, AVONDALE 6: Led by 21 points from MacKenzie Darrah and 13 points from Shareka Peeples, the Lady Wolves rolled Tuesday in Buford.

Kat Tatum added 10 points for Class AA’s second-ranked Buford (12-1, 7-0 Region 6A-AA), which visits Westminster at 7 p.m. Friday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 61, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 48: Austin Montgomery scored 13 points, the only Lakeview player in double digits in the win Tuesday in Gainesville.

Lakeview responded to a 19-points third quarter from Hebron with a 21 points final period to earn the win.

Lakeview (7-9) hosts Riverside Military at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

HEBRON CHRISTIAN GIRLS 44, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 33:
Taylor Handte scored 12 points in the loss Tuesday in Gainesville.

Lakeview visits Prince Avenue at 7 p.m. Friday in Athens.

CLARKE CENTRAL BOYS 63, FLOWERY BRANCH 53:
Rudy DeAza, Byron Keith and Marquise Wise each scored nine points in the loss Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

The Falcons travel to Winder-Barrow at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

CLARKE CENTRAL GIRLS 70, FLOWERY BRANCH 50:
Dani Lacko scored 15 points, Tavia Sykes added 12 and Cara Chilton had 10 in the loss Tuesday in Flowery Branch

Cirri Jackson led Clarke Central with 20 points.


Flowery Branch (4-11) visits Winder at 7 p.m. Friday.

JEFFERSON BOYS 95, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 75:
The Dragons had seven players in double figures in the win Tuesday in Lexington.

David Watson (18 points), Bryant Shirreffs (16), Austin Thompson (11), Dustin Casey (11), Jeshua Kidd (11), Andre Daniel (10) and Tate Chesser (10) led the way for Jefferson (7-9, 2-3 Region 8B-AA).

The Dragons visit Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN BOYS 69, HERITAGE ACADEMY 37:
Tyler Harney scored 14 points and Zach Pendley added 13 in the win Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

North Georgia (12-4, 3-1 I-A East) led 36-12 at halftime. The Chargers host Grace Christian Academy at 7 p.m. Thursday.

GAINESVILLE 59, EAST HALL 18:
Five members of the Red Elephants earned pins in the team win Tuesday at East Hall.

Rodney Timmons (112 pounds), Andy Mai (130), Josue Hernandez (152), Jason Johnson (185) and Damion Grayson (215) each had a pin for Gainesville, while John Webster earned a victory by fall at 171 pounds.

Gainesville (7-6) will participate in the Sham Slam beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at Habersham Central.

Jerry Holloway (285 pounds) and Edward Gergara (145) each had pins for East Hall, which hosts East Jackson at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25.

CHESTATEE 51, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 16:
Bart Velazquez (112 pounds), J.W. Gilbert (119), Fonny Arroyo (125), Cody Etris (135), kyle Wesley (140) and Luis Ojeda (289) each won by pin for Chestatee on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Daniel Moreno (171 pounds) and Aaron Anderson (215) each won by decision for Chestatee, which participates in the Sham Slam at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Habersham Central.
