High school scoreboard: Indians win third straight

The Lumpkin County High baseball team continued its winning ways with a 9-4 win against Gainesville on Thursday at Ivey-Watson Field.

Blake Sargent was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs, while pitching five innings and earning the win for the Indians (8-1, 6-1 Region 7-AAA), who have won three in a row.

Chad Fulton was also 3-for-4 for Lumpkin County. Will Anderson was 2-for-4 and Drew Uptegraph and Randy Otis each had an RBI for the Indians.

Sloan Strickland was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBIs for Gainesville (3-5, 3-4).

Lumpkin County plays host to Johnson at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Gainesville plays host to North Hall at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

Lakeview Academy 8, Social Circle 1

Ralston Cash struck out 10 hitters and allowed only three hits in the Lions' region opener Thursday in Gainesville.

Cash also had two hits and an RBI for Lakeview (4-0, 1-0 Region 8-A). Tyler Ward had an RBI and two runs. Haughton Carswell had two stolen bases and Jacob Whitenton had a double and an RBI for the Lions.

Lakeview plays host to Banks County at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Jackson County 12, Athens Christian 1

An eight-run third inning sparked the Panthers in a five-inning win Thursday in Athens.

John Florentine won his second game of the season for Jackson County (3-3), striking out eight and allowing only two hits.

Zach Sticher was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Panthers. Kelly Moates had three RBIs and Austin Moser added one RBI for Jackson County.

Jackson County visits Rabun County at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

North Georgia Christian 23, Mount Zion Christian 8

The Chargers unloaded 22 hits, cruising to their first win of the season Thursday in Jonesboro.

Josh Ford was 5-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for North Georgia Christian (1-2). Trey Redmon and Ross Liekboll each went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, while Matt Cox and Ryan Farmer added four hits for the Chargers

Redmond earned the win, pitching four innings with six strikeouts.

North Georgia Christian visits Loganville Christian next Thursday.

SOCCER

North Hall girls 1, White County 0


With a minute left to play, Allie Wright's shot deflected off a White County defender for a goal for Class AAA's third-ranked Lady Trojans on Thursday in Cleveland.

North Hall (7-2, 5-0 Area 7-AAA) limited White County to only four shots.

Megan Runkel made 16 saves in goal for the Lady Warriors (4-4-1, 2-3).

North Hall plays host to Forsyth Central at 5:30 p.m. today. White County plays host to Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Riverside Military 2, Banks County 1 2OT

Riverside's Joe Heath headed a corner kick from Clint Hawkins in the second overtime to edge Banks County on Thursday in Gainesville.

Evan Cuellar also scored for the Eagles (5-3, 2-1 Area 15-A/AA) on an assist from Danny Vergara.

Riverside plays host to Rabun County at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Banks County (6-4, 0-2) visits Dawson County at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

North Georgia Christian girls 2, Heritage Christian 0

Nicole Ball scored both goals for the Lady Chargers on Thursday at Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

Katie Powers recorded the shutout in goal for North Georgia Christian (3-1).

North Georgia Christian visits Cherokee Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.

TENNIS

Flowery Branch boys 5, East Hall 0


Phillips Chau, Destin Tipton and Coulter Burch each won singles matches in straight sets for the Falcons on Thursday in Flowery Branch.

Luke Smith and Curtis Stream won in doubles for Flowery Branch (2-6, 1-3 Region 7-AAA). A forfeit at No. 2 doubles completed the sweep for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch plays host to Lakeview Academy at 4 p.m. Monday.

Chestatee boys 3, North Hall 2

Strong doubles play was the difference maker for the War Eagles, as the team of Matt Olson and Graham Kosiba and the team of Scott McConnell and Justin Byers each won in straight sets Thursday at Chestatee High.

Abraham Montoya won in singles for Chestatee (7-5, 4-3 Region 7A-AAA). Mitch McCray and Clayton Nedza won in singles for North Hall.

Chestatee plays host to Gilmer at 4 p.m. Tuesday. North Hall plays host to Pickens at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Gainesville boys 3, West Forsyth 2

The team of Louis Hokayem and Corey McDonald and the team of Drew Denning and Robbie Billbrough swept doubles to secure a win and keep the Red Elephants unbeaten in region play Thursday in Cumming.

Ryan Joiner won in singles for Gainesville (6-2, 4-0), which has won its last four games.

Gainesville visits Johnson at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

West Hall girls 3, Johnson 2

Kaylin Walters and Samantha Lingle each won singles matches in straight sets for the Lady Spartans on Thursday in Oakwood.

Chelsea Britt and Alex Wright secured the win in doubles for West Hall (7-2, 3-2 Region 7B-AAA).

Cady Nix and the team of Claire Crain and Harlee Robson won for Johnson.

West Hall visits Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Johnson plays host to Gainesville at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

West Hall boys 3, Johnson 2

The Spartans won with a sweep of doubles, led by the team of Jimmy Kincaid and Kyle Weatherly and the team of Nathan Turner and Andrew Johnson on Thursday in Oakwood.

Brenden Worth won in singles for West Hall (5-4, 3-1 Region 7B-AAA). Stephen Hester and William Anthony won in singles for Johnson.

West Hall plays host to Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Johnson plays host to Gainesville at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Dawson County girls 102, Flowery Branch 121

Charley Whitmire shot a 43 to keep the Lady Tigers unbeaten Thursday at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Rachel Dotson and Taylor Hasbrouck each shot a 59 for Dawson County (5-0).

Tamara Gibbs carded a 58 to lead Flowery Branch.

Dawson County returns to Chestatee at 4 p.m. Monday against East Jackson. Flowery Branch plays host to West Forsyth and Apalachee at 4 p.m. March 24 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Dawson County boys 165, Flowery Branch 190

Wesley Bearden shot a 40 and Cody Palmer and Matt Christopher each carded a 41 in the Tigers' second win in as many days on Thursday at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Jordan Caviness led Flowery Branch with a 46, Alex Gossett shot a 47 for the Falcons.

Dawson County returns to Chestatee at 4 p.m. Monday against East Jackson. Flowery Branch plays host to West Forsyth and Apalachee at 4 p.m. March 24 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

Marco Cancemi scored twice and Jared Francke added a goal for the Eagles on Wednesday in Cumming.
