High school scoreboard: Gainesville girls take down No. 1-ranked Carrollton

Gainesville senior Jaymee Carnes finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds as part of a 49-38 win against No. 1-ranked Carrollton on Saturday at Kennesaw State University. Mikalyn DeFoor finished with 14 points for the second-ranked Lady Red Elephants (1-0).

Rebecca Webster finished with eight points and nine rebounds for Gainesville. Loren Thomas had five assists for the Lady Red Elephants.

The Lady Red Elephants face Cleveland (Tenn.) at 6 p.m. on Friday at Lee College in Cleveland, Tenn.

AQUINAS BOYS 60, LAKEVIEW 56: Jordan Chastain scored 13 for the Lions boys (0-2) in a loss on Saturday in Gainesville. Austin Pearson added 12 for Lakeview. Aquinas outscored Lakeview 25-15 in the second quarter and took a 35-21 lead into halftime.

Lakeview plays host to Providence Christian on Tuesday in Gainesville.

LAKEVIEW GIRLS 44, AQUINAS 21: Louisa Jacobs and Maddie Haymore each finished with 13 points and the Lakeview Academy girls defeated Aquinas on Saturday in Gainesville. Megan Rochester added 10 points for the Lady Lions (2-0).

The Lions outscored Aquinas 7-1 in the second quarter and took an 18-8 lead into halftime. Lakeview Academy outscored Aquinas 15-6 in the fourth period.

Lakeview plays host to Providence at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

WOODSTOCK GIRLS 45, CHESTATEE 41: Peyton Robertson finished with 21 points and seven rebounds for the Lady War Eagles on Saturday. Melissa Bailey added 14 points and four rebounds for Chestatee.

Woodstock outscored Chestatee 18-11 in the fourth quarter to secure the come-from-behind victory.

Chestatee plays host to Oconee County at 7 p.m. on Monday.

GRAYSON GIRLS 43, JOHNSON 25: The Johnson girls got 11 points from Shelley Farley in a season-opening loss to Grayson in the East Jackson Talon Tip-Off Tourney on Saturday in Commerce. Lyndsey Pethel added eight for the Lady Knights (0-1).

Tied 9-9 after the first period, Grayson ran away with the game by outscoring Johnson 18-3 in the second quarter. Taren White scored 13 for Grayson.

Johnson faces the Monroe Area/Greenbrier loser at 4 p.m. Monday at East Jackson.

GRAYSON BOYS 72, JOHNSON 54: Matt Hollis scored 12 and Chris Henry added 11 for the Knights on Saturday in the East Jackson Talon Tip-Off tourney in Commerce. Andrew Osehmen led Grayson with 15.

The Knights face an opponent still to be determined on Monday in Commerce.

CEDAR SHOALS GIRLS 52, WEST HALL 34: Bailey Soucie led the Lady Spartans (0-2) with nine points and seven rebounds Saturday in the East Jackson Talon-Tip Off tourney in Commerce. Emily Hammond scored eight for West Hall.

For Cedar Shoals, Whitley Smith scored 21 and Candace Rushing added 13. West Hall faces the East Jackson/Pace loser at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Commerce.
