High school scoreboard: Gainesville boys win Buford Invitational

The Gainesville High boys cross country team won the Buford Invitational on Tuesday in Buford.

The Red Elephants earned 60 points in the win, 12 ahead of second-place Athens Christian.

Aurelio Montano led Gainesville with a second-place finish, completing with a time of 18 minutes, 4 seconds. David Whitson finished fifth (18:27), Facundo Arroyo finished 11th (19:09) and Joey Summer finished 14th (19:22) for the Red Elephants.

Other top-ten area teams were Buford (third), East Hall (sixth) and Dawson County (seventh).

Athens Christian’s Colin Bishoff won the race with a time of 16:55.

Gainesville will race in the Coach Wood Invitational at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Lakeview Academy ends season with wins


The Lady Lions ended their season on a positive note with wins against Athens Christian (25-8, 25-15) and Tallulah Falls (25-11, 18-25, 25-19) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Megan Rochester led Lakeview Academy (13-15, 8-5 Area 8-A/AA with six kills, eight digs and 5.5 blocks. Emilie Norton had five digs and 10 assists, Louisa Jacobs had five digs and three kills, Heather Styles had four aces and seven digs, Liz Clark had three kills and Morgan Black had two aces for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview Academy opens the Area 8-A/AA tournament as the fourth seed against Jefferson at 4 p.m. Thursday in Jefferson.

North Georgia Christian eans road win

The Lady Chargers defeated Horizon Christian in four games (25-15, 21-25, 25-12, 25-19) on Tuesday in Cumming.

Hannah Parker lead North Georgia Christian with 15 kills. Katherine Dunlap had six aces and 10 assists, Ashley Valentine had two aces and 10 kills, Ashley Goodson had seven aces and one kill, Jackie Smith had four kills and Stephanie McCardel added one ace and one assist.

North Georgia Christian faces Hertiage Christian at 6 p.m. Thursday at Blackshear Place Baptist Church in Oakwood.
