High school scoreboard: East Hall rallies, falls in first round of the Roundball Classic

Joshua Hampton and Kevin Blackwell scored nine points each to lead the East Hall boys basketball team in a 48-44 loss against the top-ranked and defending Class AAAA state champion Goose Creek (S.C.) team on Monday in Charleston, S.C.

The Vikings opened the game trailing 17-0, but rallied back to lead by five points with two minutes left.

East Hall (5-4, 0-1 7B-AAA) faces Manning (S.C.) at 11:30 a.m. today in the second round of the Roundball Classic.

OSBORNE BOYS 59, GAINESVILLE 54: A.J. Johnson scored 22 points to lead the Red Elephants on Monday in the Deep South Classic at Brookwood High in Snellville.

Quon Holcomb added 13 and Ty Redmon scored 11 for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville (2-4, 1-1 Region 7B-AAA) faces the loser of the Grayson/South Cobb game at 5:30 p.m. today.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 47, JONESBORO 41: Peyton Robertson scored 24 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Lady War Eagles on Monday in the Hart County McDonald’s Shootout in Hartwell.

Rachel Kelly added 10 points for Chestatee.

Chestatee (6-3, 1-0 Region 7A-AAA) faces Greenville High (S.C.) at 4 p.m. today.

UNION COUNTY GIRLS 59, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 41: Rebecka Merritt scored a season-high 28 points to lead the Lady Panthers on Monday night at the Battle of the State tournament at Towns County High in Hiawassee.

Union County faces the defending tournament champions Polk County (Tenn.) at 4 p.m. today.

BUFORD GIRLS 66, SEQUOYAH 37: Andraya Carter scored 23 points to lead the Lady Wolves on Monday at the Pickens Holiday Classic in Jasper.

Buford (5-0, 1-0 Region 6-AA) faces Creekview at 1:30 p.m. today.
