High school scoreboard: Dragons roll to big win

Jefferson High’s Jamie Sexton hit three home runs, including a grand slam, had three runs scored and nine RBIs to lead the Dragons to a five-inning, 19-4 win Monday against East Jackson in Commerce.

Jason Demos and Kyle Hardy added two hits for Jefferson (16-2, 11-1 Region 8S-AA), which has won five straight. Lucas Redd added two runs and two RBIs.

Jake Fields pitched 2 1/3 innings to earn the win for the Dragons.

Jefferson plays host to the Region 8-AA tournament on Friday.

Lakeview Academy 8, Banks County 3

The Lions avenged a loss to Banks County earlier in the season with a win Monday in Homer.

Brett Armour continued a recent hitting tear, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs for Lakeview (18-1). Ralston Cash was also 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBIs and Ross Biegler was 3-for-4 with a double.

Dalton Munday pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Lions, who have won 11 straight.

Lakeview plays host to Athens Academy at 4:30 p.m. today. Banks County (13-7) plays in the Region 8-AA tournament on Friday.

West Hall 14, Chestatee 6

The Spartans snapped a three-gaming losing streak with a road win Monday at Chestatee High.

Brandon Grindle led West Hall (8-12, 6-12 Region 7-AAA) with two hits and four RBIs. Chad Goff and Max Everitt each had two hits and two RBIs for the Spartans.

Ryan Avery had two hits and Alex Moore homered for Chestatee (6-12, 6-12).

Scott Eichler earned the win on the mound for West Hall.

West Hall plays host to White County at 5:30 p.m. today. Chestatee plays host to Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. today.

East Hall 6, Pickens 3

Nick Deaton pitched six innings for the win while hitting an RBI single at the plate for the Vikings on Monday in Jasper.

Desmon Gardner had two hits and two RBIs for East Hall (7-15, 6-14 Region 7-AAA). Drew Adams added two hits and an RBI for the Vikings, who have won two straight for the first time this season.

Jonathan Ellis led Pickens with two hits and an RBI.

East Hall plays host to Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

North Georgia Christian 24, Mount Zion Christian 0

Nate Harris pitched a no-hitter and struck out eight for the Chargers on Monday in Gainesville.

Ryan Farmer and Matt Cox each went 4-for-4 with four RBIs for North Georgia Christian (2-5). Josh Ford added five RBIs for the Chargers.

North Georgia Christian visits Cameron Academy today in Snellville.

Jefferson girls win Region 8-AA title

The Lady Dragons shot a 182 to win the Region 8-AA title on Tuesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

The Dragons beat out Rabun County’s 186 and Dawson County’s 202 to win the championship.

Rabun County’s Jessica Arthur was the low-medalist of the day, shooting an 84. Charley Whitmire led Dawson County and finished third overall with a 95.

The Dragons will play in the Class AA state tournament on May 4 at Hawks Ridge Golf Course in Ball Ground. Dawson County’s season is now complete.

Dawson County boys finish third in region meet

The Tigers shot a 132 and finished one stroke out second, barely missing a state tournament invite on Monday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Wesley Bearden finished second individually, shooting a 75 for the Tigers. He was one stroke higher than the low-medalist.

Dawson County’s season is now complete.
