High school scoreboard: Chestatee wins in extra innings

The Chestatee High baseball team picked up a region win with an 8-7 victory in extra innings against Johnson on Friday at Chestatee High.

With the game tied at seven in the ninth inning, Zach Sisk hit a walk-off single to score Rafael Mendoza, snapping a two-game losing streak for the War Eagles (4-5, 4-5 Region 7-AAA).

Ryan Avery was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI for Chestatee. Mendoza was 3-for-5 and Kevin Clifford had two RBIs for the War Eagles.

Dustin Peck picked up the win in relief for Chestatee.

Johnson (1-10, 1-8) was led by Christian Duguay, who hit a three-run home run, and Logan Pethel, who had two hits and two runs for the Knights.

Chestatee plays host to West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Johnson visits Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Lakeview Academy 17, St. Francis 7

The Lions unloaded 15 hits in five innings to remain undefeated Friday in Gainesville.

Ralston Cash was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for Lakeview (7-0). Matt Askounis, Tyler Ward, Jacob Whitenton and Dalton Munday each had two hits. Munday also scored three runs.

Taylor Simpson earned the win on the mound for the Lions.

Lakeview plays host to Banks County at 1 p.m. today.

Lumpkin County 15, Pickens 0

The Indians had 12 hits while allowing only one to win their fifth straight in three innings Friday in Dahlonega.

Devin Dunson pitched a one-hitter, while going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for Lumpkin County (10-1, 8-1 Region 7-AAA). Drew Uptegraph had three hits, Jonathan Whitehead had two RBIs and Randy Otis and Chad Fulton each had two hits for the Indians.

Lumpkin County plays host to Johnson at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Jefferson 13, Oglethorpe County 3

The Dragons scored nine runs in the final three innings to earn the win on Friday in Lexington. Chris Swancey was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Michael Cidboy had two hits and four runs batted in for Jefferson (7-1, 3-0 Region 8-AA). Jake Fields also had a pair of RBIs for the Dragons.

Jefferson visits North Oconee at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Bogart.

Gilmer 14, West Hall 0

Travis Clements had the lone hit for the Spartans on Friday in Oakwood. Gilmer scored nine runs in the third inning to secure the early win.

West Hall (6-5, 4-5 Region 7-AAA) visits Creekview at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

White County 9, North Hall 5

Kevin Frederick and Travis Rutkiewicz each went 4-for-4 for the Warriors on Friday at Jody Davis Field.

Adam Hooper was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for White County (6-5, 4-5 Region 7-AAA). David Sosebee struck out nine hitters to get his second win of the season.

Davis Partrick was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for North Hall (5-6, 5-4). K.J. McAllister also homered for the Trojans.

White County plays host to Gainesville at 5:30 p.m. Monday. North Hall plays host to Pickens at 5:55 p.m. Monday.000

Stephens County 13, Buford 12

The Wolves scored nine runs in the last two innings, but were unable to complete a rally Friday at Gerald McQuaig Field in Buford.

Landon Anderson has three hits, two doubles and an RBI for Buford (5-5). Josh Rudnik had two hits and four RBIs. Adam Schrader had three hits and Cody Getz added two hits.

Buford opens region play at home against Blessed Trinity at 5:30 p.m. Monday..000

East Hall 8, Pickens 6 (Thursday)

Each starter for the Vikings had a hit, led by Nick Deaton, Jonathan Woodring and Drew Adams, who each had two hits Thursday at East Hall Park.

Adams also picked up the win on the mound for East Hall (3-8, 2-7 Region 7-AAA). Deaton earned the save for the Vikings.

East Hall plays host to North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Gainesville girls 2, Lumpkin County 0

Maggie Norton scored an unassisted goal and Rebecca Webster scored on an assist from Lauren Joiner to earn the Lady Red Elephants a region win Friday in Dahlonega.

Hong Tran recorded the shutout in goal for Gainesville (6-3, 2-2 Area 7-AAA).

Gainesville plays host to East Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lumpkin County visits Creekview at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Gainesville boys 3, Lumpkin County 1

After a scoreless first half, Russ Puckett, Yonis Yanes and Aiden Riesing each scored for the Elephants to defeat fourth-ranked Lumpkin County on Friday in Dahlonega.

Yanes also had an assist for Gainesville (7-3, 4-2 Area 7-AAA). Phillip Gaines made 12 saves in goal for Red Elephants.

Gainesville plays host to East Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lumpkin County (8-2, 3-2) visits Creekview at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

TENNIS

Riverside Military 5, Dawson County 0 (Thursday)

Tom Kerekes increased his winning streak at No. 1 singles to 11 matches Thursday in Dawsonville.

Other singles winners for Riverside (3-2, 2-0 Region 8A-AA) were Matt Lowery and Joe Kowalski.

The team of Andres Osegueda and Joe Barrow and the team of Luke Klaer and Chris Reed completed the sweep for the Eagles in doubles play.

Riverside visits Jefferson at 4 p.m. Monday.

Lakeview Academy boys 5, Commerce 0 (Thursday)

Nekhil Patel, Mike Fowler and Kollin Smith each won in straight sets for the Lions on Thursday in Gainesville.

The team of Matt Morris and Alex Klecan and the team of Sean Casey and Jackson Beck completed the sweep for Lakeview.
Lakeview plays host to Athens Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Jackie Burleson, Molly Smith and Nyari Chanakira combined to lose only one set in singles for the Lady Lions on Thursday in Gainesville.

The team of Cree Nix and Komal Patel and the team of Meagan Cole and Jennifer Porter secured the shutout for Lakeview.

Lakeview plays host to Athens Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.
