High school scoreboard: Chestatee girls upset Gainesville

The Chestatee High girls soccer team opened region play with a 3-0 upset against Class AAA’s 10th-ranked Gainesville on Monday at Chestatee High.

After a scorless first half, the Lady War Eagles (3-0-1, 1-0 Area 7-AAA) unloaded with three goals from Megan Fligg, Morgan Dooley and Kelsey Neukum.

Abi Mills and Kiersten Sapp recorded assists for Chestatee, which had 15 shots on goal. Sharon Sotelo recorded her third shutout of the season for the Lady War Eagles.

Chestatee visits third-ranked Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. today. Gainesville (3-2, 0-1) plays host to Dawson County at 5:30 p.m. today.

BASEBALL

Gilmer 7, East Hall 2

Drew Adams was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for the Vikings in their region opener Monday in Ellijay.

Desmon Gardner pitched five innings and also had a hit for East Hall (1-2, 0-1 Region 7-AAA).

Jesse Wike led Gilmer with a 2-for-4 day at the plate that included a home run. He also pitched a complete game for the Bobcats, striking out 11.

East Hall plays host to Creekview at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

TENNIS

West Hall boys 3, West Forsyth 2

With both teams tied at two wins apiece, the doubles team of Nathan Turner and Steven Backus overcame a 4-1 deficit in the final set to win 6-4 and clinch the team win for the Spartans on Monday in Cumming.

The team of Andrew Johnson and Connor McFall also won a doubles match for West Hall (2-2, 1-0 Region 7B-AAA). Brenden Worth contributed a singles win for the Spartans.

West Hall visits East Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday.
