Gainesville softball takes two games

Gainesville’s softball program swept games against Johnson, 10-1, and Lakeview Academy, 14-1, on Saturday.

Kara England earned the win in Game 1 with six strikeouts from the pitching circle, while Kayla Street had four strikeouts to earn the win in the second game.

Offensively, Street led the way with four hits and three RBIs, while Whitney Ledford had three hits and a pair of stolen bases. Kayla Montague finished with three hits and drove in three runs. England, Abby Smallwood, Madison Oliver and Courtney Presnell each had two hits and two RBIs for Gainesville (9-2).

On Tuesday, Gainesville visits Lanier at 5:55 p.m. in Sugar Hill.

Carly Faulkner had a run-scoring hit for the Lady Lions (1-4) against Gainesville.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 13, JOHNSON 2: Hanna Grogan had a hit in all three at bats with four RBIs on Saturday at Gainesville. Hannah Brown threw a complete-game with six strikeouts for the Lady Lions. On Tuesday, Lakeview Academy visits Prince Avenue Christian on Tuesday in Bogart.

BUFORD 7, NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 3: Kennedy Kotula pitched 4 2/3 innings of three-hit ball for the Lady Wolves on Saturday in the Tournament of Champions in Dalton.

Jordan Deep was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored for the Lady Wolves, while Baylee Sexton was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Tessa Daniels had a two-run home run for Buford, while Sydney Starvo scored twice.

GORDON LEE 5, BUFORD 0: Deep had two hits, including a double, in the final game of the Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Dalton. On Monday, Buford hosts Lambert at 5 p.m. in Buford.

JEFFERSON 15, LANIER 4: Dawson Horn had three hits, four RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while Olivia Husted was 3 for 3 with three runs scored for the Lady Dragons on Saturday in Sugar Hill.
Meagan Faulkener was 2 for 3 for Jefferson with two RBIs.

The North Hall volleyball program picked up wins against Forsyth Central (25-22, 25-15) and Collins Hill (25-16, 23-25, 15-8) in the Forsyth Challenge on Saturday. The Lady Trojans fell to Pinecrest Academy (25-18, 17-25, 10-15) before losing to Fellowship Christian in the semifinal gold bracket (25-18, 22-25, 15-13).

For North Hall, Sydney Cleveland had 47 kills, 19 digs three aces and a pair of blocks.

Lily Paschall provided 85 assists for the Lady Trojans, while Julie Daniels had 16 kills, 20 digs and six blocks.

Autumn Tucker chipped in 29 kills and a blocked shot for North Hall, and Jen Mullican finished with 12 kills, eight blocks and three aces. Also for the Lady Trojans, Makenzie Bryant had 34 digs, Kayln Dyer had nine digs and Juliana Paschall finished with three blocked shots.

On Tuesday, North Hall visits Gainesville.

FLOWERY BRANCH SPLITS FOUR MATCHES: The Lady Falcons beat Clarke Central (22-25, 25-21, 15-13) and Archer (25-16, 15-25, 15-9), while losing matches against George Walton Academy (25-13, 25-10) and South Gwinnett (26-24, 24-26, 15-10) in the Aloha Bash on Saturday at Parkview High.

Erin Mcglone had nine kills and six blocks for Flowery Branch, while Katie Hall added six kills and six aces.

Maddie Tulk finished with eight kills and four blocks for Flowery Branch, and Nicole Kirkman had 11 blocks and five kills.

On Tuesday, Flowery Branch plays host to East Hall and Newton.

LAKEVIEW RUNS AT NORTHEAST GEORGIA CHAMPIONSHIP: Race winner Lewis Brooks ran a time of 17 minutes, 30 seconds to pace the Lions to a 10th-place finish Saturday in Athens. The Lady Lions took 14th place.
