Riverside Military golf team wins Region 8-A championship

The Riverside Military golf team combined to card a 331, barely edging out Athens Academy's 332 to win the Region 8-A championship Tuesday at Highland Walk Golf Course at Victoria Bryant State Park in Royston. Austin Klee and Michael Mortoccia each shot a 7-over-par 79 to lead the way for the Eagles. Individually, Klee and Mortoccia tied for second place, while Kyle Wilkinson's 83 put him in a tie for seventh.

Athens Academy, which secured a spot in the state tournament with its second-place finish, was led by Kyle Mueller, who fired a 70 to take low-medalist honors in the match. Riverside and Athens Academy will play in the Class A state tournament May 2 at the Green Island Country Club in Columbus.

NORTH HALL BOYS 152, LUMPKIN COUNTY 166: Ryan Matthews (37), Jackson Berry (38) and Andy Bracewell (38) led the Trojans to the win Tuesday at Chestatee. Austin Booker's 37 and Aaron George's 38 led Lumpkin County. Both the Trojans and Indians play in the Region 8-AAA tournament Thursday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Baseball

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 5, TALLULAH FALLS 0: Jacob Harrison earned the complete game win with 12 strikeouts Tuesday in Tallulah Falls. Blake Barrom (3-for-4) drove in three runs, while Mason Pope hit a home run and drove in two runs for Riverside, which hosts Flowery Branch at 1 p.m. Saturday.

NORTH HALL BOYS 2, OCONEE COUNTY 1: Zack Tibbs scored the go-ahead goal for the Trojans on Tuesday in Gainesville. With the win, North Hall (9-3 Area 8-AAA) earned the third seed from the area going into the state playoffs.

CHESTATEE BOYS 5, WHITE COUNTY 0: Roldan Reyes scored two goals Tuesday in Gainesville, and the War Eagles (8-4 Area 8-AAA) earned the fourth seed from the area going into the state playoffs.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 2, WHITE COUNTY 1: Alexis Rebollar scored her second goal of the game with 1 1/2 minutes left Tuesday in Gainesville to send the Lady War Eagles (14-4, 9-3 Area 8-AAA) to the Class AAA state playoffs as the third seed from the region. With the loss, White County's season is complete at 13-4 overall and 8-4 in Area 8-AAA.

TOWNS COUNTY GIRLS 2, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 0 (MONDAY): The Lady Lions finished the season 6-5 and 2-5 in Area 8-A.

Tennis

DUNWOODY BOYS 3, FLOWERY BRANCH 0: The Falcons were swept in the first round of the Class AAAA state tournament Tuesday in Dunwoody. Flowery Branch's season is now complete.
