High school basketball fans all around Hall County were expecting to see region basketball champions crowned Saturday evening. Mother nature had other plans.
Due to heavier than expected snowfall, the final days of the Region 7-3A, Region 7-4A, Region 8-6A and Region 8-A tournaments have all been postponed to Monday.
The schedule adjustment will force teams from all over the area to wait a few more days before finding out what seed they will be in upcoming state playoffs.
The Gainesville boys, Riverside Military, and North Hall and Lakeview Academy girls teams are still alive for region championships. The Red Elephants will take on Lanier Monday evening for the Region 8-6A crown, the Lady Trojans will battle Greater Atlanta Christian to win Region 7-3A and the Lady Lions match up against Hebron Christian to win Region 8-A.
Gainesville lost both regular season matchups against the Longhorns, and North Hall was also 0-2 vs. the Lady Spartans this year. Lakeview Academy lost its one previous game against Hebron. All three teams will try to find new results in Monday’s rematches.
In other Monday action, the North Hall boys will battle Cherokee Bluff to decide the No. 3 seed out of Region 7-3A. North Hall beat Cherokee Bluff in both regular season matchups, but the Bears took down the Trojans in December’s Lanierland tournament.
The Chestatee and Flowery Branch girls will play for the No. 3 seed out of Region 7-4A. The Lady Falcons won both regular season contests. The Chestatee boys, meanwhile, will take on Marist as they aim for a No. 3 seed of their own. Chestatee lost both regular season matchups between the two War Eagle squads.
