High school basketball: Gainesville girls start fast and beat Milton

Sadie Roach had a team-high 14 points for the Gainesville girls and Amaya Topps added 10 in a 56-35 win against Milton on Tuesday in Gainesville. 

The Lady Red Elephants (3-1) jumped to a fast start with a 12-5 lead after the first quarter, then held a 19-12 scoring edge in the third period. 

Zaria Williams had nine steals for Gainesville. 

EAST HALL GIRLS 72, JACKSON COUNTY 46: Audrey Griffin had a game-high 24 points for the Lady Vikings (3-1) on Tuesday in Jefferson. Callie Dale scored 15 points and Alexis Burce added 13 for East Hall. 

Up next, East Hall faces Walnut Grove at 7 p.m. Friday.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 73, JOHNSON 20: Emma Easterwood had a game-high 17 points and Annie Dollyhigh added 12 points for the Lady War Eagles on Tuesday. Riley Black finished with 11 points for Chestatee (1-0). 

Chestatee visits Cherokee Bluff at 6 p.m. Thursday. 

CHESTATEE BOYS 62, JOHNSON 50: Peyton Phillips hit six 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 19 points for the War Eagles on Tuesday. Hugh Pruitt had 13 points for Chestatee.

Jackson Vandiver had 21 points for the Knights. 

CHEROKEE BLUFF GIRLS 41, EAST JACKSON 37: Ella Freeman and Timber Gaither each scored nine points for the Lady Bears on Tuesday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 53, MOUNT BETHEL 51: Ben Montgomery had 19 points to lead the Lions in their opener on Tuesday. Isaac Marcero had 11 points and Conley Millwood scored 10. 

BUFORD GIRLS 69, PARKVIEW 58: Ashyia Willis led four Lady Wolves in double digits scoring with 19 points on Tuesday. Blair Wallis had 15 points, while Tamori Plantin and Tatum Ozment each scored 12 points for Buford. 

Up next, Buford faces Hillgrove at 1:45 p.m. Saturday at Hebron Christian.
