Gainesville High's D'Marcus Simonds nominated for McDonald's All-American basketball game

Gainesville High senior D’Marcus Simonds is one of 755 high school players from across the nation nominated to play in the 2016 McDonald’s All-American basketball game, as announced in a press release sent out on Wednesday.

Simonds is one of 12 boys from Georgia, along with 12 girls nominated. Simonds, a Georgia State University signee, had a triple-double, including 13 points in Gainesville’s 83-65 win against Lanier on Tuesday.

The final 24-player roster will be announced during a selection show, airing at 10:30 p.m. Jan. 17 on ESPNU. The McDonald’s All-American Game is at 9 p.m. March 30 at the United Center in Chicago. It will be broadcast on ESPN.

For the sixth consecutive season, the game showcasing the top senior talent in the country will be played in Chicago.

Past participants in the McDonald’s All-American Game in recent years include Karl Anthony-Towns, Jahlil Okafor and Justice Winslow.
