Flowery Branch girls and boys cross country teams take first in tourney

Both the girls and boys cross country teams at Flowery Branch High School finished in first place at the Carrollton Last Chance Invitational on Saturday in Carrollton.

For the Lady Falcons, Kiara Woods came in first place overall with a time of 19 minutes, 33 seconds.

Four other Flowery Branch runners finished in the top 25 to give the girls the win.

Utami Kethchum was 12th, Brenda Navarro was 13th, Jessica Elinburg finished 15th and Ana Lopera came in 21st.

The Lady Falcons finished with a total score of 58 points.

On the boys side, Daniel Martinez was the top finisher for the boys coming in third place.

The Flowery Branch boys had six top-10 finishers in their respective race.

Maurice Riden finished in fourth, David Farist came in fifth, Jeffrey Velez finished seventh, Kenny Slavik eighth, A.J. Clendennin ninth and J.T. Orr finished 17th. The Falcons finished with a point total of 27.

Up next for both the boys and girls is the Region 7-AAA Tournament which begins at 4:30 p.m. for the girls and 5 p.m. for the boys Thursday at Unicoi State Park.
