Big third quarter fuels East Hall boys past Chestatee in first round of Lanierland tournament

Luke Cooper scored 21 points to lead the East Hall boys basketball team to a 87-69 win against Chestatee in the first round of the Lanierland tournament Wednesday at North Hall High School.

The War Eagles cut a double-digit deficit to 47-40 early in the third quarter, but the Vikings closed the period on a 25-6 run to cruise into Thursday’s semifinal round at Gainesville High School. East Hall made 11 3-pointers and scored frequently in transition thanks to its swarming full-court press.

Chestatee’s Barron King produced a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The No. 2 seed Vikings will face No. 3 seed North Hall at 5 p.m. Thursday, while No. 7 seed Chestatee draws No. 6 seed Johnson at 11 a.m.
