Dani Malone’s three goals led the No. 3 seed Johnson High girls soccer team to an 8-1 win against Rome in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs Wednesday in Rome.
With the win, which was the team's first playoff victory in 14 years, the Lady Knights will face the winner of the No. 1 seed Chamblee/No. 4 seed North Springs match.
Jenna Degroot had a brace for Johnson, while teammate Maria Rivera contributed two goals as well. Carla Avalos provided the team's other score.
ST. PIUS X GIRLS 2, CHESTATEE 1: Kyleigh Drew scored in the 17th minute off an assist from senior teammate Stacey Mendoza as the fourth-seeded Lady War Eagles nearly upset top-seeded St. Pius X in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs on Wednesday in Atlanta.
