The North Hall High volleyball team put on a dominant showing Saturday, winning every set over five matches en route to the Athens Academy Invitational championship.
The Lady Trojans swept Winder-Barrow High (25-18, 25-12), Clarke Central High (25-6, 25-4), Athens Academy (25-15, 28-26), Apalachee High (25-16, 25-16) and finally Mt. Paran Christian (25-22, 28-26) in the championship match.
Lily Paschall had 107 assists on the day for North Hall, and Autumn Tucker produced 41 kills and 39 digs. The Lady Trojans also benefited from Melissa DeVerter’s 35 kills, 18 blocks and 13 digs, while Lena Strickland added 38 digs for North Hall.
Holly Worden (13 aces), Caroline Brady (18 kills and 17 digs), Molly Martin (15 digs) and Madison Brock (11 kills) helped the Lady Trojans during their undefeated run at the tournament.
North Hall faces Fannin County High on Tuesday.
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GOES UNDEFEATED IN LUMPKIN INVITATIONAL: Madison Dowdy led the way with 32 kills and 23 digs as the Lady Lions cruised to the Lumpkin Invitational title Saturday night.
Lakeview Academy beat Lumpkin County High (25-14, 25-13), Faith Academy (25-2, 25-7), Lanier Christian Academy (25-14, 25-11; and 25-19, 25-13), Gilmer High (25-8, 25-8) and Dawson County High (25-13, 25-10).
Sadie Thrailkill had 33 kills and 18 digs for the Lady Lions, who received 20 kills from Garrett Green and 22 aces from Reece Johnson. Lakeivew Academy’s Maddy Towles provided 19 assists, 11 kills and eight aces.
Maddy Child (38 assists and 12 aces), Gracie Caudell (33 assists and 14 aces) and Linda Geib (13 blocks) also contributed for the Lady Lions.
JOHNSON GOES 2-2: The Lady Knights claimed wins against Loganville Christian Academy (25-23, 25-22) and Trinity High (23-25, 25-18, 15-5), though they fell to Providence Christian (15-25, 11-25) and Walnut Grove High (14-25, 12-25) on Saturday.
Grace Eidson led the way for Johnson (8-14) with 28 kills, 20 digs, 25 assists, four aces and one block. Teammate Alivia Farley totaled 17 assists, 12 kills and 11 digs, while Kellie Tran and Emily Pena both recorded 15 digs.
Julia Bowers had 10 digs, while Samantha Summerville compiled seven kills and four aces for the Lady Knights, who begin Region 8-5A play with a tri-match against Cedar Shoals High and Clarke Central High on Tuesday.
The East Hall High softball team picked up a sweep Saturday by outlasting Oconee County High 7-5 and racing past Monroe Area High 6-1.
Lady Vikings pitcher Macy Banks earned the win in a back-and-forth Game 1, giving up five runs on six hits through five innings. Kaitlyn Daniel and Abigail Brown notched three RBIs apiece for East Hall, with Brown hitting a home run. The pair, along with Carley Cox, registered multiple hits for East Hall.
Brown’s success at the plate continued in Game 2, during which she went 2 for 3 with an RBI triple in the first inning. Steffanie Redmon contributed to the Lady Vikings’ victory with a run-scoring single, and she also picked up the win in the circle by striking out five batters through as many innings.
Daniel added to the East Hall offense with a solo home run.
