High school scoreboard: Mydell hits two-run homer for Gainesville in 5-1 victory

Alani Mydell had a two-run home run in Gainesville’s 5-1 victory against Clarke Central on Thursday in Gainesville. Sarah Barrett contributed an RBI for the Lady Red Elephants while teammate Madison Oliver finished the night with an RBI as well.

Gainesville faces Commerce at 5 p.m. today in Gainesville.

BUFORD 12, WESLEYAN 4: Kelsey Bennett drove in a home run with four RBIs for Buford Thursday night in Buford. Hannah Jo Hyatt added four RBIs for the Lady Wolves (11-2) while teammates Mariah Wicker and Janelle Mathis each finished the night with an RBI.

Buford faces Walnut Grove in a rematch of the 2016 Class 5A state championship Thursday in Buford. 

Prior to the game the 2007 Buford’s state championship team will be honored.

CHESTATEE 6, BLESSED TRINITY 1: Chestatee’s pitcher Elizabeth Eddins threw five strikeouts over seven innings on Tuesday. Eddins also had two RBIs for the Lady War Eagles (7-6, 2-1 Region 7-4A) while teammate Bailey Mason added two RBIs as well.

West Hall’s Kinsey Wilson had three aces with three blocks in the Lady Spartans’ sweep against Cedar Shoals (25-15, 25-16) and Madison County (25-21, 25-20) Tuesday night. India Strickland had nine assists for West Hall (13-16) while teammate Ruby Guerrero finished the night with 10 digs. Cadie Shirley had four aces for the Lady Spartans.

West Hall plays Brookwood on Thursday in Snellville.

FLOWERY BRANCH TOPS PRINCE AVENUE CHRISTIAN: Anna Marshall led the Flowery Branch attack with nine kills two aces and a block in Tuesday’s sweep against Prince Avenue Christian (25-19, 25-16, 25-19). Ashley Scott added five kills, five aces with nine digs for the Lady Falcons while teammate Ellie Luciani finished the night with 16 digs and an assist.

Flowery Branch hosts King’s Ridge on Thursday in Flowery Branch.

EAST HALL SWEEPS FANNIN COUNTY AND DAWSON COUNTY: East Hall’s Niyah Rucker posted 30 kills, six aces nine digs and seven blocks in a sweep against Fannin County (24-26, 25-20, 25-14) and Dawson County (25-23, 25-10). Tessa Rider contributed to the Lady Vikings attack with 10 kills while adding 10 aces, 20 digs, a block and an assist. Holly Poole finished the night with nine kills, 15 digs, four aces and an assist for East Hall.

East Hall hosts White County and Walnut Grove at 5 p.m. in a tri-match on Thursday in Gainesville.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: Madison Dowdy had 18 kills, 17 digs and three aces in Lakeview Academy’s senior night tri-match win against Chestatee (25-19, 25-13) and Jackson County (25-22, 25-22). Sadie Thrailkill added 14 kills for the Lady Lions (23-9). Lakeview Academy’s senior Gracie Caudell contributed 27 assists with three kills while senior teammate Mary Evelyn Brock added 21 digs and two aces in the win. Senior Abby Gopfert finished the night with 14 digs for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview Academy plays in the Lumpkin County Indian Invitational this weekend in Dahlonega.

NORTH HALL SWEEPS UNION COUNTY AND JEFFERSON: Autumn Tucker had 15 kills, four aces and four digs in North Hall’s sweep against Union County (25-6, 25-5) and Jefferson (25-12, 25-23). Melissa DeVerter totaled 14 kills, three blocks, four aces and seven digs for the Lady Trojans. Lily Paschall finished the night with 30 assist, seven aces, three kills and 11 digs for North Hall.

North Hall plays in the Athens Academy invitational on Saturday in Athens.

GAINESVILLE SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: Savannah Roys had 18 kills, two aces and 11 digs in Gainesville’s sweep against Apalachee (25-17, 17-25. 25-17) and Winder-Barrow (25-16, 26-24). Kenley Jordan totaled 12 kills, 16 digs with five aces for the Lady Red Elephants while teammate Abby Alexander finished the night with 12 kills and two blocks.

Gainesviile plays North Gwinnett at 5 p.m. on Thursday in Gainesville.
