Dawson County vs. North Hall

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Tiger Stadium, Dawsonville

Records: Dawson County (2-2); North Hall (1-4, 1-0 Region 7-AAA)

Last week: The Tigers fell to White County 45-42. The Trojans found the win column for the first time this year with a 13-0 shutout of Region 7-3A opponent Fannin County, their ninth-consecutive victory over the Rebels.

What to watch for: Having dropped two-straight games since a 2-0 start, the Tigers are looking for a strong start in Region 7-3A play when they host North Hall tonight. They’ll be led by senior quarterback Coey Watson (37 of 64, 514 yards, six touchdowns, one interception), who has accrued 717 yards from scrimmage in the four games played. The Trojans have won two of three meetings thus far in the series.

East Hall vs. Union County

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: East Hall Stadium, Gainesville

Records: East Hall (4-1, 1-0 Region 7-3A); Union County (4-1, 0-1)

Last week: Both teams kicked off their region slates, with the Vikings defeating Lumpkin County 42-14, and Union County suffering a 47-7 loss to Greater Atlanta Christian.

What to watch for: The Vikings are winners of four straight with senior quarterback Austin Parker steering the ship. The state’s leading passer has completed 64 of his passes for 1,727 yards with 22 touchdowns and only one interception to help the Vikings average 52 points a contest. The Panthers’ loss to Greater Atlanta Christian was the first time they had given up more than two touchdowns in the five games played thus far.

East Hall is 6-3 all time against Union County, but lost the previous meeting, 51-46 in Blairsville.

Gainesville at Marist

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Hughes Spalding Stadium, Atlanta

Records: Gainesville (1-3); Marist (5-0)

Last week: The Red Elephants fell to fifth-ranked Jefferson, 33-3. The No. 3 War Eagles shutout Chamblee 58-0.

What to watch for: The Red Elephants could still be without starting quarterback Tre’ Luttrell, who suffered a shoulder injury in a loss to Alpharetta on Aug. 25. Chandler Watson (107 total yards last week) and freshman Robert Reisman were two to see action under center for Gainesville last week. The Red Elephants will look to capture their second win of the year against the War Eagles, who have won the last five meetings of this matchup dating back to 1965.

The War Eagles gave longtime head coach Alan Chadwick his 355th victory last Friday night, good for second all-time in Georgia history. 

Johnson at Walnut Grove

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Warrior Field, Walnut Grove

Records: Johnson (0-5, 0-1 Region 8-5A); Walnut Grove (1-4, 0-1)

Last week: The Knights were defeated by Flowery Branch, 54-6. The Warriors lost to Loganville, 21-17. 

What to watch for: The Knights are 0-3 in the series, and look for their first win of the regular season tonight.

Lakeview Academy at Athens Christian

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Eagle Field, Athens

Records: Lakeview Academy (2-2, 1-2 Region 8-A); Athens Christian (1-3, 0-3)

Last week: The Lions defeated Providence Christian 35-14. The Eagles fell to Commerce 35-0 for their third-straight loss.

What to watch for: Alec Bornhorst continues to be the driving force of the Lions’ offense, totaling 1,248 total yards (903 passing yards, five touchdowns, six interceptions) for nine touchdowns through four games. The Lions look for their first win in the series against Athens Christian, which has won every meeting dating back to 2008.

Riverside Military Academy at Athens Academy

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Slaughter Field, Athens

Records: Riverside Military Academy (0-5, 0-5 Region 8-A); Athens Academy (4-0, 3-0)

Last week: The Eagles lost to Hebron Christian Academy, 48-7. The Spartans defeated Towns County 53-13.

What to watch for: Athens Academy is 13-3 all-time against Riverside Military, and have won the last five meetings.

Buford vs. Clarke Central

When: 7:30 p.m. today

Where: Tom Riden Stadium, Buford

Records: Buford (2-1), Clarke Central (4-1, 1-0 Region 8-5A)

Last week: The Wolves had a bye, while the Gladiators opened Region 8-5A play with a 48-7 win over Cedar Shoals.

What to watch for: There is no question what makes Buford’s offense go. The triple-threat running back tandem that is Michigan commit Christian Turner (253 yards, three touchdowns), Tennessee pledge Anthony Grant and No. 3 back Derrian Brown have combined for 522 yards on 66 touches in three games. The Wolves won the first-ever meeting, 44-13, against Clarke Central last season.
