ATLANTA — Marcus Thornton says he is coming to Georgia, giving coach Mark Fox a big name for his 2010-11 freshman class.
The 6-foot-8, 230-pound Thornton, who led Atlanta's Westlake High School to a state championship, was released from his letter of intent with Clemson after coach Oliver Purnell left for DePaul. Thornton says he picked Georgia over Georgia Tech, Alabama and Texas.

He averaged 24 points and 12 rebounds as a senior. He also is a strong shot-blocker.

Georgia's top players last season, Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie, are returning next season after considering leaving school early for the NBA.
