HOOVER, Ala. — J.B. Woodman tripled, doubled and drove in three runs Tuesday as No. 7 seed Mississippi defeated No. 10 seed Georgia 5-1 in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament.

Ole Miss (41-16) will face No. 2 seed South Carolina (42-13) on Wednesday as the tournament moves to double-elimination play. Georgia (27-30) was eliminated.

Woodman hit a two-run triple and Colby Bortles doubled home two more runs as Ole Miss took the lead for good by scoring four times in the fourth inning. Woodman doubled home Will Golsan in the fifth.

Georgia had taken a 1-0 lead on Stephen Wrenn’s homer in the first.

Brady Feigl, Will Stokes and Wyatt Short combined for five innings of shutout relief after Brady Bramlett allowed one run in four innings. Georgia starter Heath Holder yielded four runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Georgia hasn’t won an SEC tournament game since 2011.
