ATHENS — A former football walk-on for the University of Georgia has died from injuries he sustained in a car-truck collision near Madison.

Joshua Willis, a 19 year-old from Americus, died Monday after he was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.

Morgan County Coroner Adam Carter said Willis was headed north on Georgia Highway 83 when his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer truck that was believed to be heading south.

Willis was a long snapper for Georgia on the 2006 team and was considering returning to the team this spring, according to senior Jeff Henson, Georgia's top long snapper.

Willis played at Sumter County High School, where his father, Carl, is on the football staff.
