Gainsville High graduate and current University of Georgia golfer Spencer Ralston added a new piece of hardware to the trophy case on Sunday when he claimed first in The Players Amateur golf tournament at Berkeley Hall Golf Club in Bluffton, S.C.

The win qualifies Ralston for the RBC Heritage PGA tournament in spring.

Ralston stayed under par in all four rounds of the tournament, and got better as the weekend moved along. After a one-under 71 in the opening round on Thursday, Ralston shot rounds of 67 and 68 on Friday and Saturday. He saved his best work for last, firing a nine-under 63 — matching the second best round any of the tournament’s participants shot all weekend —to earn the win.

In all, Ralston marked only two bogeys over 72 holes played.
