The Gainesville A’s summer baseball team won its opener in the American Legion state tournament against Loganville 9-3 on Wednesday at Hunter Park in Douglasville.

Cody Ackerman, a Flowery Branch High graduate, earned the win pitching with seven strikeouts and added five hits on offense. Ryan Avery and Max Everitt each had three hits each for Gainesville. Gainesville faces Albany Post 30 on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
