Freddie Freeman’s 26-game on-base streak ended Wednesday in the Gwinnett Braves’ 10-2 loss to the Norfolk Tides at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.
The Tides (41-47) scored 10 runs on 17 hits and did most of their damage against Cody Gearrin, who allowed six runs on four hits.
Freeman’s streak wasn’t the only one that ended, as Diory Hernandez’s 12-game hitting streak came to a close with an 0-for-3 performance.
Jo-Jo Reyes struck out eight and left with the game tied 2-2 in the sixth inning. But the Tides scored six runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead for good.
Barbaro Canizares went 2-for-4 and hit his sixth home run of the season for Gwinnett (41-47).
Adam Donachie went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Robert Andino went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored for Norfolk.
Gwinnett plays host to Charlotte in the first game of a four-game series at 7:05 tonight at Coolray Field. G-Braves RHP Todd Redmond (8-7, 3.92 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Matt Zaleski (5-5, 3.61 ERA) of the Knights.
