Former Gainesville High athlete Jack Roberts will have his football jersey retired at halftime of the Red Elephants’ home game against Gilmer on Friday at City Park.

Roberts was an All-State selection in football, baseball, basketball and track and was a state high jump champion while attending Gainesville from 1946-1949. After high school, Roberts played football and baseball at the University of Georgia, where he led the Bulldogs to an SEC Championship in 1952. He pitched in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system after college.
