East Hall’s football program is officially looking for a new coach.
On Tuesday, former Vikings coach Michael Perry was named to the same position at Union County, ending his two-year stint at East Hall with a 6-12 overall mark, 4-4 in 2020.
“First of all, I’m so grateful for my two years at East Hall,” Perry said. “It’s a great place. When my wife (Elia) was going through cancer, they were all so supportive of us.”
Perry said the deciding factor in pursuing the job at Union County was his close relationship with its principal CT Hussion. Hussion was a coach and educator for many years at Gainesville High and worked alongside Perry.
Perry was an 11-year member of the football staff at Gainesville High. He was quarterbacks coach for the Red Elephants, working directly with Deshaun Watson, during his high school career.
After leaving Gainesville, Perry was an assistant at Coffee (2016), before serving as head coach at Centennial for the following two seasons.
The new coach at East Hall will have quarterback Clete Cooper to work with for one season.
In 2020, the Vikings’ quarterback threw for almost 2,200 yards in eight games.
“Clete is a great quarterback and has done some tremendous things in high school,” Perry said. “He’s a really hard worker.”
The Union County job came open earlier this year when its coach Brian Allison was tabbed to be the first head coach at East Forsyth High, which opens in the fall of 2021.
