ATLANTA — Quarterback Kelton Hill passed for two touchdowns and Malcolm Smith ran for a TD Saturday in the first spring game of Georgia State's new football program.
More important to coach Bill Curry was an announced crowd of 3,192 at the 71,250-seat Georgia Dome.
"I'm really pleased that our fans were so interested in us," Curry said. "I believe they saw enough today to be encouraged enough to go get their friends and be back on Sept. 2."
Hill, Drew Little and Bo Schlechter were combined for 19 of 34 passing for 283 yards and one interception. Curry has yet to name a starter at any position, including quarterback.
Using a hybrid scoring and statistics system, Curry said the Panthers' offensive team beat the defensive team 36-31. The offense scored points traditionally while the defense was awarded points for three-and-out series, tackles for minus yardage, sacks and takeaways.
Georgia State, which will play an independent schedule in 2010, returns to the dome for its first game Sept. 2 against Shorter College.
