Local golf: White wins for CLGA at Chattahoochee

Mona White won the low-gross event as the Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a two-day tournament at the Chattahoochee Golf Course on Sept. 14 and 21.

The winner of the first flight for low gross was Susan Prather, with Ann White winning the low-net competition. In the second flight, the low-gross winner was Nora Gleason and the low-net winner was Jewell Floyd.

Closest to the pin winners for Sept. 14 were Violet Reynolds on No. 3 and White on No. 17. On Sept. 21, White won both No. 3 and No. 17.

DOGFIGHT: Gail Gibson, Geoff Archibald, Jerry Horton and Yoko Komoto carded a net score of 13-under-par to win the Wednesday Dogfight at Chicopee Woods Golf Course this week.

Dave Sellers, Mark Black, Keither Fitzgerald and Ken Dooley placed second at 12-under-par. Dooley won the individual competition with a round of 66 and Horton placed second with a 69. Gibson and Komoto tied for third with a 71, while Jim Arendt, Tom Bolton, Bill Jorgenson, Jeff Frasier and Black all fired a 73 to tie for fifth.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played a three best ball, aggregated net-points game Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First place went to the team of Don Sorrell, Dave Gleason, Jack Costello and Paul Payne with Ed Pledger, Bud Clegg, Clay Bartlett and John Shepherd placing second.

The team of Denny Momper, Doug Van, Roy Lyle and Dave Valent took third and Harry Barnett, Dave Long, Joe Kolesar and John T. Smith teamed up for fourth. Fifth place went to the team of Eddie Johnson, Carlyle Cox, Jim Hollobaugh and Ralph Prescott. Closest to the pin winners were Nick Margaritondo on No. 3, Wayne Nelson on No. 5, Cox on No. 12 and Johnson on No. 17.

LUNA: The Luna’s Tuesday Golf Group played at the Georgia Club in Staham this week. First place went to the team of Brandon Martin, Tommy Lowery, Jim Cornett and Richard Strickland. Second place went to the team of Don Rogers, Larry Cleek, Cleve Brown and Donnie Smith. Third place went to the team of Royce Deaton, Stan Davidson Jr, Sam McGee and Grady Smith. Closest to the pin winners were Deaton on No. 2, Brown on No. 8, Cleek on No. 12 and Cornett on No. 17.

DPG: The DPG played matches Monday, Wednesday and Friday of this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

On Monday, Jerry Shell took first place with a score of +4. Dave Jetter was second with an even score and Terrence Dale finished third at -2.

Wednesday’s match was won by Shell at +8. Dave Jetter took second with a score of +6. Bob Kidd was third with +2 and Dwight Miller finished fourth at even.

Steve Knowles was first on Friday with +11 and Shell finished second with a +8.
