Local golf: Stamey aces No. 4 at Chicopee Woods

Phillip Stamey hit a hole-in-one on a par-4 hole Thursday at Chicopee Woods golf course.

The shot came on the No. 3 hole of the Mill course with a driver from the blue tees. Witnesses were Bradley Orr and Lou Vega.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played a three best ball, aggregated net-strokes game Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.

First place went to the team of Paul Payne, Gary Palmer , Jere Cochran and Nick Margaritondo.

The team of Dave Long, Carlyle Cox and Dick Freeman placed second. Guy Long, Joe Kolesar, Bud Clegg and Denny Momper teamed up to tie Don Gage, Jack Costello and Rick Reed for third.

Closest to the pin winners A.J. Kiker on No. 3, Cox on No. 5, Leroy Harper on No. 12 and Eddie Johnson on No. 17.

DOGFIGHT: Scott Holcomb, Roger Stapp and Wayne Groebli combined for a 21-under-par net score on Wednesday to take first place at Chicopee Woods golf course.

Second place went to Mark Black, Ron Melin and Bill Jorgenson at 17-under-par. Groebli carded a 62 on the day to take first place in the individual competition. Stapp and Jorgenson tied for second at 67 while Tommy Calhoun and Melin tied for fourth with a 69.

CLGA: The Chattahoochee Ladies’ Golf Association played a Texas Scramble on Tuesday at the Chattahoochee golf course.

First place went to the team of Ann Hollobaugh, Carolyn Palmer, Paula Pilgrim and Nancy Norton. Second place went to Beulah Land, Betty Norton and Nora Gleason with Hollobaugh as their blind draw.

Third place went to the team of Ann White, Ethel Smith, Violet Reynolds and Johann Stone. Closest to the pin winners were: Ann White on No. 3 and Violet Reynolds on No. 17.

DPG: The DPG played matches Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of last week at Chicopee Woods golf course. On Tuesday, Doug Padgett took first place with a score of -2, while Charley Kilby, Denis Jordan and Dwight Miller tied for second at -3.

Wednesday’s individual match was won by Steve Knowles with +4. Knowles paired with Horace Smallwood to win the team competition with +1.

Padgett and Jerry Shell placed second in the team event with -4. Friday’s match was won by Jerry Shell with a +5.

Smallwood placed second with a +4 and Kilby took third with a +3.
