Local golf: Cronmiller, Land win at Chattahoochee

The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a low gross low-net event Tuesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First flight, low-gross winner was Sue Cronmiller with Beulah Land winning the low-net event. In the second flight the low-gross winner was Nancy Negle with Nora Gleason winning low net. Closest to pin winners were Gleason on No. 3 and Land on No. 17.

LUNA: The Luna’s Tuesday Golf Group played at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Clarkesville this week. First place went to the team of Gene Weschler, Johnny Nix, Larry Miller and Cleve Brown. Second place went to the team of Michael Gordy, Tommy Lowery, Anthony Barrett and Stan Davidson Sr. Third place went to Lee Caudell, Jerry Johns, Doug Van and Jimmy Harritos. Closest to the pin winners were Van on No. 4, Nix on No. 7, Weschler on No. 11 and Chad Pierce on No. 15.

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played its monthly Individual Flighted Strokes competition Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

In the white-tee flight, Butch Teston took first place, Bill Sutton finished second and Doug Van and Eddie Johnson tied for third. Glynn Rogers took fifth.

Gene Weschler and Clay Bartlett tied for first in the golf tee first flight, while Dave Gleason took third.
Carlyle Cox and Don Gage tied for fourth with Buddy Reeves taking sixth.

In the gold tee second flight, first place went to Gary Palmer with second going to Bob Watson. Jim Hesser took third and Dave Valen and Jim Van Dyke tied for fourth. Rolf Legbandt finished in sixth.

Closest to the pin winners were Bill Kopecky on No. 3, Ben Brooks on No. 5, Weschler on No. 12 and Valent on no. 17.

DOGFIGHT: The Wednesday Dogfight took place at Chicopee Woods Golf Course this week. In the team competition, Gayle Gibson, Bill Jorgenson and Wyne Groebli took first place with a net score of 17-under-par and Greg Lee, Yoshi Keichii and Keith Fitzgerald placed second with a score of 15-under-par.

Individually, Groebli took first with a 65, Keichii took second with a 66, Walt Hope took third with a 68 and Yoko Komoto placed fourth with a 69. Lou Vega’s 70 was good enough for fifth and Gibson’s 71 placed sixth.

DPG: The DPG played matches Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.
On Monday, Dave Jetter tied Jerry Pearson for first place honors with a score of +2. Horace Smallwood was third with +1.

Doug Padgett was first in individual play Wednesday with a +7. Padgett and James Roberts also finished first in team competition with a +8. The team of Jetter and Dwight Miller was second with a score of +5.

First place in Friday’s match was a tie between Charley Kilby and Billy Corbin at +3. Steve Knowles took third place with +2 and Jerry Shell was fourth with a score of even.
