North Georgia College & State University sophomore Jaymee Carnes, a Gainesville High graduate, was named Tuesday as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week.

It marks the second time in five weeks this year that Carnes (28.3 ppg., 12.2 rpg.) has earned the weekly honors.

Last week, Carnes led the Lady Saints (6-3) with 34 points and 12 rebounds against Reinhardt College, then 39 points in a 73-70 overtime win against Newberry College.

Against Reinhardt, she made 11 of her 20 field goal attempts and knocked down 10 of her 12 free throws. Then against Newberry College, Carnes scored six of her game-high 39 points in overtime.

Down the stretch she took control of the game, sinking a jumper with less than 20 seconds to play. Then on the ensuing possession she blocked the potential game-winning layup attempt, pulled down the rebound while being fouled and made both free throws to seal the victory.

Last week Carnes averaged 36.5 points per game and 13 rebounds per game, while scoring exactly 50 percent of the North Georgia's points and shooting 57 percent from the field.

The 39-point performance tied for 11th most in a single game in the NCAA this year, and she now holds two of the top 14 scoring performances in Peach Belt Conference history.
