The North Georgia men’s basketball team wrapped up 2011 with a 70-49 victory over Anderson University on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall in Dahlonega. The Saints (6-5, 1-0 Peach Belt Conference) improved their home record to 5-1 this season. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Anderson (7-3, 2-0 South Atlanta Conference). With the win the Saints improve to 3-1 against the South Atlantic Conference this season. The Trojans held their only lead of the game after Taylor Shugart hit a jumper one minute into the game to put Anderson up 2-0. The Saints responded with a 26-8 run over the next 10 minutes to pull away. North Georgia had their best defensive effort of the season, holding Anderson to 28.6 percent shooting from the field. Scott Windom and Clarence Tillman led the Saints offensive attack. Windom poured in 18 points and Tillman scored a game-high 22 and pulled down 11 boards to register his first double-double of the season. Freshman Travis Core added 10 points off the bench, along with four rebounds and four assists. The Saints return to action on Tuesday in Morrow to face Clayton State in the first game of a two-game Peach Belt Conference road trip.
