The University of North Georgia plated four runs in the third inning as it went on to beat Lander 8-1 on Sunday in Greenwood, S.C.
Trevor Sams had a two-run single for the Nighthawks (12-4), and Devin Gearhart had a pair of hits and scored three runs.
On the mound, Lumpkin County High graduate Daniel McCrary picked up the win after throwing the first six innings and allowed six hits. On Wednesday, North Georgia visits Anderson University at 3 p.m. in Anderson, S.C.
NORTH GEORGIA SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER: The fourth-ranked Nighthawks split a doubleheader against Armstrong State, losing the first game 3-1 in extra innings and winning Game 2 7-2, to open Peach Belt Conference play Sunday in Dahlonega.
In the second game, Amber Johns picked up a complete-game victory for North Georgia (21-6), allowing six hits and one walk. Kaylyn Anthony had a two-run homer for the Nighthawks. Alishia Frierson, Stephanie Hartness and Hannah McSwain each added a solo home run.
Anthony finished the day 3-for-6 at the plate for North Georgia.
On Saturday, North Georgia visits Montevallo University for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. in Montevallo, Ala.
