The University of North Georgia softball team split a doubleheader against Union University on Tuesday in Dahlonega. The Lady Nighthawks (36-10) lost the first game 2-1 before winning the nightcap 8-2.
In Game 1, Stephanie Hartness hit a home run for North Georgia before Union tied the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth with an RBI single through the right side.
Later in the game, Kristen Pickens drove in a run to put the Lady Bulldogs up 2-1. Despite loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, the Nighthawks couldn’t push a run across.
But in Game 2, North Georgia scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The big frame featured Kaylyn Anthony’s three-run triple down the left field line.
North Georgia hosts Georgia Southwestern at 1 p.m. Friday at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium.
