Connor Hoover had a walk-off home run in the 13th inning as the University of North Georgia baseball team topped No. 1 Nova Southeastern 8-7 on Saturday at Bob Stein Stadium.
Michael Gouge led the Nighthawks with four hits, three RBIs and scored three runs. Devin Gearhart also came through with four hits for North Georgia (6-0).
Dawson County High graduate Logan Burt earned the win, throwing 2 2/3 innings and allowed one hit.
North Georgia goes for the three-game sweep against the defending Division II national champions at noon Sunday in Dahlonega.
NORTH GEORGIA WINS TWO: The eighth-ranked Nighthawks beat Palm Beach Atlantic 10-3 in the opener, then West Georgia 4-1 in Game 2 in the Steak ‘n Shake Classic on Saturday in Dahlonega.
In Game 1, Kali Turner was 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Amber Johns earned the victory in relief for North Georgia, throwing 4 2/3 innings with four strikeouts in relief. Sydney Sprague added a home run for the Nighthawks.
In Game 2, Kylee Smith pitched a complete game with six strikeouts for North Georgia (8-2).
On Sunday, North Georgia faces Palm Beach Atlantic at noon and West Georgia at 2 p.m. on the final day of the Steak ‘n Shake Classic.
BETHEL 71, BRENAU 60: Dominique Patrick had a career-high 28 points (11 of 12 on free throws) for the Golden Tigers on Saturday. Autumn Dodson chipped in 10 points for Brenau.
