Rhodes College pitcher and West Hall High alum Hunter Chandler has been awarded a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The Capital One All-American posted a 5-2 record with a 1.48 ERA, while walking only 13 batters during the 2011 season. Chandler was named to the SCAC All-Tournament team for his performance in a 21-inning win over Olgethorpe University. He pitched 10 2/3 innings in relief and only allowed 1 earned run in the longest game in Division III history.
Chandler was also impressive in the classroom, maintaining a 3.97 grade point average as an economics and business major.
The prestigious award was created in 1964 to encourage postgraduate work from the NCAA’s finest student-athletes.
Athletic and academic performances are evaluated as well as campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership.
