A second-half rally wasn’t enough to lift Lakeview on Friday night as the Lions fell to George Walton Academy 42-20 at Jock Hornor Field.
On homecoming night, the Lions (2-4, 1-3 Region 8-A) fell despite outscoring the Bulldogs in the second half.
George Walton (3-3, 3-1 region) set the tone in the first quarter, rushing for 150 yards and four touchdowns. Running back J.D. Buice scored a 14-yard touchdown, J.J. Litumbe ran 48 yards for a score and Ty Buice busted out a 59-yard touchdown.
On their following defensive drive, Ty Buice returned an interception for a score.
In a drive in the second quarter, Isiah Tossie had six carries that ended with his touchdown run, putting the Bulldogs up 35-0.
Then Lakeview started throwing the football effectively and the momentum was starting to sway. Quarterback Thaddeus Webb piled up 166 yards and two passing touchdowns.
“We just tried to stay focused, while taking (the game) play-by-play,” Webb said. “We thought we could move the ball better by throwing it.”
“We had a little success throwing the ball at the end of the first half, so we came out in the second half and threw it more,” Lakeview head coach Matthew Gruhn said.
The Lions outscored the Bulldogs 14-7 in the second half.
