Commerce used late heroics to pull out a 27-20 victory over Athens Academy on Friday at Ray Lamb Stadium.
Nursing a narrow 21-20 lead in the fourth quarter, Commerce defensive back K.J. Jones intercepted a pass in the red zone and returned it 90 yards for touchdown to pad the lead to 27-20.
Athens Academy threatened again in the closing seconds of the game, but Commerce made a stop at its own 1-yard line on fourth-and-goal at the 2 as time expired.
Cole Chancey led the way for the Tigers with 126 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Caleb Brooks added a passing and rushing touchdown for Commerce, which finished with 184 yards of total offense.
Commerce travels to Athens Christian next Friday.
