To the families of military veterans, men and women from every branch of the United States military and Merchant Marines on whose shoulders we now stand tall: We pause to remember that they paid the ultimate price for our freedom in country, community and family, safety and security.
Members of the Armed Forces served in defense of our nation, guarded our borders and protected our airways so that we might have a sense of safety and security. They stood between injustice and justice at various educational institutions so that the quality of life will be lifted and the standard of life will become evident.
Although these men and women are not here today, their presence and work is evident. So we shall never forget their service rendered, sacrifices made to our country, families, community and worship centers by calling to remembrance their names and deeds. Because of them, we have a better place to live, work and worship and children can grow up to be men and women with character and courage.
Whatever role they played or occupation performed, we are better off by their coming our way and serving with honor and distinction. Veterans, like vessels, come in all sizes, shapes and distinctions, but the common thread is they came, served and are now somewhere in eternity, gone but not forgotten.
You are our treasure in earthen vessels. Thanks for your service.
