The northbound exits 16 and 17 of Interstate 985 were shut down for a few hours Monday afternoon after a vehicle crashed about 100 feet down an embankment, according to Gainesville Police.

The Gainesville Fire Department reported one person was seriously injured. Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook said the driver was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The wreck at about 3:10 p.m. involved one vehicle pulling a 20-foot utility trailer, Holbrook said.

The vehicle “lost control somehow,” struck the guardrail and went over, while the trailer was caught on the guardrail.
