Woman’s body found in Chestatee River

The body of a missing woman has been recovered from the Chestatee River, according to officials.

Belinda Butterfield, 34, of Canton was reported missing Monday, April 15 near the White County/Lumpkin County line after last being seen swimming in a nearby creek, according to Lt. Alan Roach of the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, April 17, a resident in the area called to report finding a person submerged in the river.

White County, Lumpkin County and Department of Natural Resources officials participated in recovering the person from the water.

Roach said in a release that Butterfield was identified by family members. Her body was taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
