A covered 410-space boat storage business is proposed on 12 acres off McEver Road at Lights Ferry Road just outside Flowery Branch and near Safe Harbor Aqualand on Lake Lanier.
Foster Rd Inc. is planning to ask the Hall County Planning Commission on Monday, June 3, to rezone the property from agricultural-residential to highway business to allow the use, which would include a proposed office building.
The property at 6127 Lights Ferry Road is now occupied by a house built in 1935 and three barns.
Waylon Hoge, principal of Integrity Engineering & Development Services, said in a letter to Hall County officials that the property would be accessed by Lights Ferry Road.
Lights Ferry Road is a main road through Flowery Branch, connecting McEver Road to Atlanta Highway/Ga. 13 and becoming Phil Niekro Boulevard before reaching Interstate 985. McEver Road is a main West Hall artery, running from Gainesville to Buford.
A 25-foot strip along the property’s boundary with residential property would be landscaped, in addition to an existing “dense tree line” along the property line, Hoge said.
Also, a 6-foot security fence would “surround the entire property, he said.
Hall County planning officials are recommending denial of the project, saying “it is inconsistent with (Hall’s) Comprehensive Plan.”
Foster Rd officials couldn’t be reached for comment.
The planning board’s vote will be only on a recommendation to the Hall County Board of Commissioners, which is scheduled to hold a public hearing and final vote on the matter on June 27.
